PROSPECTS FOR THE PROGRAMMING METHODOLOGIES (1981)

Abstract

Following a brief review of the programming methodologies that are currently being discussed, the problems of programming are compared with those of several other, partly analogous activities, including journalistic writing, the making of encyclopaedias, and problem solving. From these comparisons it is concluded that what is likely to be of most importance in programming in the coming years is a specialization of the programming task, particularly such that critical reviewing of programs will be performed by specialists.
