PROGRAMMING LANGUAGESÑSTATUS AND TRENDS (1972)

DATA 6: 36-38, 1972.

Abstract

The paper is a personal reflection on the present situation within the field of programming languages. The chief characteristic is seen to be the complexity of the situation, arising from the three dimensions of subject matter, level of description, and mode of operation or environment. After some remarks on large operating systems and on certain theoretical developments, the lack of relation between programming languages and their users is deplored.
